The Movie “Homestead” (2024) Should Preppers Bother Watching?
The Movie Homestead - A Prepper's Review
After watching the movie “Homestead,” I thought I’d offer my personal review as a prepper without giving away too many spoilers.
You may not have seen a lot of promotion for this movie, Homestead, because it’s not a typical Hollywood production. Don’t let that fool you. It’s a real movie, with great actors and a decent storyline – especially if you love a post-apocalyptic theme sprinkled with prepper goodness. Prepper Goodness… Where have we heard that phrase from?

Pros of The Movie “Homestead”
Homestead is an intense post-apocalyptic family survival drama
I think any movie described as a “post-apocalyptic family survival drama” is already on the right path—my favorite genre. Personally, I didn’t think it all that intense.
Pretty quickly into the movie, we are rewarded with a survival compound that most preppers will only dream of. A billionaire’s version of a homestead. A large fenced area with multiple outbuildings deep in the mountains, surrounded by forest.
You’ll see vehicles and weapons used by the former Green Beret team hired for security that will likely make your mouth water.
They blew up Los Angeles. That’s always a nice thought.

Cons of The Movie “Homestead”
Some have said the movie Homestead was overly preachy or too Christian-based. I don’t even know what that means, but I didn’t feel it was preachy. With a few mentions of God or prayer, people begin to foam at the mouth. People prayed, people were shot, people were people.

But you should know this before paying for a ticket
The biggest con I want to mention is about the end. There isn’t one. The movie ended with a QR code that links to a page where you can donate or purchase the next episode (or two). In other words, it feels as if the movie Homestead was more of a pilot than a stand-alone movie.
According to Kearran Giovanni in an interview, Homestead was supposed to be a series, but the strike (Remember the actor’s strike?) somehow caused the first two episodes to be turned into a movie, with more to come.
HOMESTEAD Movie + TV Series + Reality Series = More to come.
Nevertheless, I didn’t feel cheated, even after pre-paying double the price of an actual movie ticket at the theater. It was ending enough for me. You will get the overall point of the movie.
Lessons Learned From A Prepper’s Perspective
First, and we’ve been hearing this for years, community matters. The lone wolf always dies.
As fantastic as it sounds, the survival compound we dream of will always be a target.
A perimeter too large to patrol and secure is a huge security risk.
Food and preps out of sight can become vulnerable to all sorts of issues.
Everything isn’t always solved with whiteboards and math. The human factor adds an equation that can be hard to factor in.
It doesn’t take a world-ending event to cause a national SHTF situation to unfold.
The biggest lesson of all… the answer to all of those who have said they won’t help family and friends who ignored the warning and didn’t prepare. That’s all I will say on that.
My Overall Impression of the movie Homestead
I liked it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get out and see a movie. It’s well written, produced, and stars Neal McDonough.
It’s not a Hollyweird (Yes, I can speak Jeff B) movie; it’s an Angel Studios film using an out-of-the-box strategy to promote it.

Hawkins out.
PS: My theater wasn’t too crowded; we saw it just after noon. I was able to select seats near an exit and a clear line of sight of both entrances. I prefer situational awareness over view and comfort. But that’s just me.
